Super Intelligence (SI)

Super Intelligence (SI): what the new name for AI means for your business

The US government now calls AI "Super Intelligence". Here is what changed, what did not, and how companies in Europe and the UK can put today's SI to work through agents, integrations and a clear plan.

The definition

What is super intelligence (SI)?

Super Intelligence (SI) is the official US government term for artificial intelligence since Executive Order 14434 of 29 September 2026; it renames today's AI and does not describe a new, more capable technology.

  • SI, the new US term

Today's AI under a new name: language models, AI agents, machine learning and automation that already run in businesses. This is what most searches for "superintelligence AI" now refer to.

  • Artificial superintelligence (ASI)

The older research meaning: a future system that would outperform people at almost every task. It does not exist today, and the executive order does not claim it does.

In practice

Super intelligence for business: what you can deploy today

Renaming AI does not change what it can do for a company this quarter. The value still comes from agents connected to your systems, governed by your rules and measured against a business number.

  • Super intelligence agents

    AI agents for business

Agents that take real work off your team, such as pricing, quotes, outreach and product data, and act through the tools you already use, with a person approving anything that matters.

SI vs AI vs AGI vs ASI: what is the difference?

Four terms now appear in the same headlines. Two describe technology you can use today; two describe research goals.

Does the super intelligence executive order affect EU and UK businesses?

Mostly not. The order governs how US federal agencies write, not what private companies must do. These are the four points worth knowing.

  • No new obligations for companies

The order changes no statute, places no duties on private businesses and has no penalty. You do not need to rename your AI products or policies.

  • EU and UK law still say "AI"

The EU AI Act, Regulation (EU) 2024/1689, regulates "AI systems". Your compliance work, contracts and risk assessments keep using that language.

  • Selling to the US government

Agency tenders, forms and letters will start to use "SI". Mirror their wording in proposals to that agency, and keep statutory terms when you cite existing law or contracts.

  • Expect a legal definition soon

A proposed federal definition of Super Intelligence is due around late November 2026. Only Congress can change the statutory meaning, so watch for that before changing anything.

How to prepare your business for super intelligence

The name changed overnight. The work that makes SI useful is the same as before, and it starts small.

  1. 01

Pick one job with a number

Choose a repetitive task with a measurable cost, such as quoting, invoice handling or lead research, and agree the metric it should move.

  2. 02

    Check data and access

Confirm the systems an agent would need, who may approve its actions and where the data is processed under GDPR.

  3. 03

    Build and run a pilot

Put one agent into production with a person in the loop, inside the tools your team already uses, and measure it against the baseline.

  4. 04

    Govern and scale

Once it pays back, roll out more agents with shared rules, permissions and approvals, for example through ChannelGate.

Super intelligence FAQs

  • Is SI the same as AI?

Yes. Under Executive Order 14434, Super Intelligence (SI) means the same as artificial intelligence (AI) as defined in existing US law. The order changes the name US federal agencies use, not the technology. A proposed federal definition is due around late November 2026 and could change this only if Congress passes it.

  • Is it superintelligence or super intelligence?

The executive order writes "Super Intelligence", two words, abbreviated "SI". Researchers usually write "superintelligence", one word, for artificial superintelligence (ASI): a hypothetical system smarter than people at almost everything. Search engines treat both spellings as the same topic, so check the context to know which one is meant.

  • What is the difference between superintelligence and AGI?

Artificial general intelligence (AGI) would match a capable person across most intellectual tasks. Artificial superintelligence (ASI) would go far beyond the best people. Neither exists today. The US term SI is different again: it is simply the new official name for current AI.

  • Do companies have to start using the term SI?

No. The order applies to US federal agencies and places no obligations on private companies. Businesses in the EU and UK keep the terminology of their own laws, such as the EU AI Act. If you bid for US federal work, matching the agency's wording in your proposal is sensible.

  • What are super intelligence agents?

Super intelligence agents are AI agents described with the new SI name: software that pursues a goal and acts through your tools, such as drafting quotes, researching leads or updating a CRM. See how we build them on our AI agents for business page, or how teams use them in Slack through ChannelGate.

  • How should we prepare our business for super intelligence?

Treat SI as today's AI and start with one job that has a measurable cost. Check the data and approvals it needs, run a pilot with a person in the loop, then scale with shared rules. Our AI consultancy can help you pick the first use case and build the roadmap.
